Alcyone star system

This Taurus is listed as a multi-star system in the Washington Binary Catalog (WDS) and the Catalog of Binary and Multiple Star Components (CCDM). The latter catalog lists the main component, formally named Alcyone and three companions. Alcyone B (24 Tauri) is a white main sequence star with an apparent magnitude of 6.28. It is located 117 'from the primary component. Alcyone C has a variable star designation V647 Tauri and is classified as a variable Delta Shield. Its brightness changes from 8.25 to 8.30 with a period of 1.13 hours. Alcyone D is a white main sequence star with a visual magnitude of 9.15.

Alcyone D is listed in the WDS catalog as a double star with two similar components separated by only 0.3 '. The catalog lists four more fainter stars in the system, none of them brighter than 11th magnitude.


White-necked alcyone is common in southern Asia from the Arabian Peninsula to Indonesia, in Australia, on the islands of Oceania

Micronesian alcyone lives on the islands of Micronesia, as well as in Japan
